Review Lardon Truck

When the food truck trend first emerged, I had a hard stance on it: there's no way I'd follow a "restaurant" on Twitter just so I could find where it was parked if I had a craving for it. Ridiculous. My stance has loosened a bit lately thanks to The Truck Stop at Beverly and La Brea, simply because it's on my way home from work and I know that there will be trucks there. Since I don't have a taste for any trucks in particular it works out well. My dinner will have variety, I get to try something new, and I don't have to deal with Twitter or worse, Facebook.

My favorite of the trucks at The Truck Stop had been the Jogasaki Sushi Burrito truck, which is basically a delicious oversized hand roll in the form of a burrito. That was before I met Lardon. There is one thread connecting every item on the Lardon menu: bacon. Whether you're up for a a french toast sandwich, a blt, or a brownie, you'll find it all has bacon. They don't mess around with their bacon either. It's high quality, flavorful, cooked well, and rightfully deserves it's place as the star of the menu. I've had this truck on several occasions and find that consistently the case.

If you've never eaten from this truck before, you are required to get the Baco Taco. Why has it taken it this long for someone to think of it? Goodbye corn tortilla shell, hello bacon shell. Filled with potatoes and cheese. Served with horseradish sour cream dip on the side. Yes, each deserves it's own sentence because it's that epic. One word of caution though. If you have somewhere to be that requires alertness, such as operating heavy equipment after you consume this dish, only have one. Two is a guaranteed food coma that might put a smile on your face, but brain function is going to revert back to 2nd grade.

The Baco Taco isn't the only taco on the menu. They also sell bacon street tacos. This is probably closer to what you'd imagine when you think of a bacon taco. Small corn tortilla, pieces of bacon, potatoes, avocado. The tacos are quite small since they are street tacos, but each is generously filled. These were good, but they really didn't standout. Not compared to the Baco Taco and not compared to the BLT.

The BLT features several strips of chewier bacon on a french roll with lettuce, tomatoes, and blue cheese. For just $1 more, you can add avocado. It's key. The roll and bacon were chewy and by the end of the sandwich I was a little bit tired of chewing. The lettuce and tomato were fresh, providing a bit of crunch and lighter flavors to offset the bacon, bread and cheese. I really would have liked more blue cheese, as it was only present in a few bites, but overall I have no complaints.

I'd never recommend that you follow the Lardon truck on Twitter so you can track it's every move and stalk it. There isn't a truck that qualifies for that type of commitment. However, I'd suggest that you check out the Lardon truck if you're driving one day and happen to see it. Even if all you get is the Baco Taco. Put it on your Bucket List.
